Lucine (Corvidan: LUSIN) is a former Champion Tournament finalist, who withdrew herself from the tournament after becoming involved in the controversy surrounding the event. She is also the current romantic partner of Governor Neeka.
Lucine began her career working odd jobs at the Adventurer's Guild, later transitioning to full-time security work. She achieved a small amount of public renown while working as a bouncer at the popular Club Incubus, an exclusive nightclub in Mythril Mile. Club patrons trusted her to be harsh with troublemakers but a sympathetic ear to those who needed a discreet confidante. In additional to traditional martial combat, Lucine also became proficient in advanced arcane combat techinques, including planar magic.
On Day 30 of Month 1, 1020, then-Governor Reiner announced the Champion Tournament, a public tournament whose winner would be selected as the successor to Champion Kesti Kor'onen.[1] Lucine made the decision to enter the Tournament as a way to become more involved in Irynian life, feeling that her work as a bouncer did not make a sufficient impact on her community.[2] Her skill with planar magic made her a favorite among tournament attendees, many of whom predicted that she had a good chance to win.
Shortly before the Champion Tournament finale, Lucine received a letter that read as follows:
To Lucine: I don’t want to waste your valuable time, so I’ll keep this short. There’s 10,000 gold in it for you if you make sure that Madeleine wins the tournament. If you’re interested, meet me at Pier 17 at midnight tomorrow, and we can discuss the details.[3]
In response, Lucine consulted an anonymous informant who placed her in contact with Neeka, who at the time was an Iryna PD Inspector. Lucine arrived at Pier 17 at the appointed time and was met by a person posing as Selwyn, the Evridiki diplomat officiating the tournament. Lucine was attacked by that individual (whose identity remains unknown) and mortally wounded, but was resuscitated by Neeka. Afraid of further retribution if she participated in the tournament final, she instead went into hiding, not revealing that she had survived the encounter for several weeks.
Lucine began a romantic partnership with Neeka shortly after their first meeting[4], and the two currently live together.
