The Governor's Mansion refers both to the executive government of Iryna and the building in which it is headquartered. The Mansion is a historic building which serves as the residence of Iryna's Governor, Champion, and any visiting foreign dignitaries. It also contains offices, conference rooms, and other official spaces. Communal kitchens provide food for those who live and work inside. The Mansion sits in the center of a large courtyard, occasionally used for events but typically closed to the public. The Mansion is located within the Parliament Park district.
The chief executive of the Irynian government is the Governor, who in addition to the standard requirements for office, must also be at least 30 years old. There is no term length for the position of Governor; once elected, they serve until they choose to retire or until Parliament votes to hold a new gubernatorial election. If the Governor wins the election, they continue to serve, and Parliament cannot call another election for the next two years. If another candidate wins, they are ineligible to run for Governor again. The Governor fills a variety of roles, setting the broad priorities of subordinate government agencies as well as personally overseeing important bureaucratic affairs. Iryna's current Governor is Neeka, who took office in 1021.
The Governor’s second-in-command is the Champion of Iryna, who was originally the city’s commander-in-chief but in modern times has become its chief diplomat. The Champion is appointed by the Governor personally, and must be an Irynian native, but there is no age requirement. Due to their previous military duties and the high prevalence of mages in Iryna, the Champion is expected to be a highly-skilled arcane combatant. During various periods of Irynian history, Governors have selected a Champion by holding a tournament to determine the city's most powerful mage. The Champion splits their time between accompanying the Governor to public events and travelling to other islands in the Corvidan Archipelago to represent Iryna's interests abroad. Iryna's current Champion is Madeleine, who took office in 1020 after winning the Champion Tournament, which was initiated by then-Governor Reiner.
As of 1021, Iryna's law enforcement agency is the City Guard, currently led by Director Fiona under the supervision of Governor Neeka. Policing was formerly handled by Iryna PD until it was dissolved by Neeka following the unacceptable conduct of Superintendent Kellen Ridge, who permanently compromised the organization's credibility. The Governor’s Mansion itself is protected by the Mansion Guard, a specialized security detail which operates separately from other law enforcement officers.
