Age is the measurement of how long a person has been alive. The age of Corvidan children is counted in months until they are a year and half; afterwards, it is determined less precisely based by subtracting a child's birth year from the current year. For instance, a child born in the year 1001 is considered to be 5 years old starting on Day 1 of Month 1, 1006, regardless of their birth date.
1-3:
Parents are expected to keep their children under constant supervision for the first few years. Informal schooling such as daycare and preschool exists, but enrollment is not mandatory.
4-9:
Children typically begin attending primary school around age 4, depending on their intellectual development. By this age, a child's innate magical potential has typically become apparent.
10-15:
Secondary school prepares students for adult responsibilities. Children are introduced to independence, with some given allowances, allowed to travel on their own, or hired for part-time work.
16-21:
Legally adults at age 16, Corvidans are still considered to be lacking necessary experience before age 20. Many in this age group pursue higher education before entering the workforce.
22-59:
Corvidans over 21 are considered true adults. Most are financially independent with established careers and/or families, no longer reliant on their parents to sustain themselves.
60-119:
At age 60, Corvidans are considered to be seniors. Even with the best medical advancements, Corvidans over 60 feel the effects of aging on their bodies, and may retire from work at this point.
120-215:
120 is considered the extent of the natural lifespan of a healthy, non-magical Corvidan. A very small percentage of Corvidans will see their 120th year, which is a cause for great celebration.
216+:
216 (or 63) is an age that only a handful of Corvidans have ever reached, which is only possible through magical means. Corvidans over 216 are highly-respected, near-legendary figures.
