Armory

This article is about the Irynian public figure. For armaments used in the Corvidan Archipelago, see Weaponry.

Armory is a plural system and former Upper Old Iryna resident. They gained city-wide renown after their involvement in the Parliamentary judicial hearing that resulted in their father Kellen Ridge being criminally charged with child abuse and misfeasance in office[Note]. Armory has otherwise avoided public attention, and little is known about them outside the context of the hearing.

In 1001, well-regarded Upper Old Irynians Kellen Ridge and Maelia Ridge had their first and only child, who they named Saskia. Saskia's life was, at least to external observers, uneventful until 10 years later. In 1011, Saskia contracted meningitis and died before EMS could reach the Ridge estate. However, Kellen Ridge ordered the EMT on site to resuscitate Saskia, even though they had been unresponsive for several minutes. Kellen Ridge, as Superintendent of Iryna PD, was known to be intolerant of dissent and would frequently fire any subordinate who disobeyed orders. The EMT chose to proceed with the resuscitation. News of this event was not shared publically; those who were aware of it assumed that this decision was made to protect the child's privacy.[1]

Unbeknownst to all but a few close confidants of the Ridge family, Saskia's resuscitation could not be properly called "successful". Saskia suffered from severe PRCI and PTSD in the aftermath of their resuscitation, and could not continue to attend school with their Upper Old Irynian cohort. Saskia was privately tutored inside the Ridge estate and did not leave the house except under constant parental supervision. Because of this, Saskia was unable to seek outside support. At this point, they began identifying as plural and referring to themselves as Armory, an identity which their parents refused to accept as legitimate.[2] Tensions rose between Armory and their parents, culminating with Armory leaving Upper Old Iryna in 1016 and disappearing from public life.[3]

Armory did not resurface until the year 1020, when they approached Parliamentary lawyers who were preparing a case against Kellen Ridge. Governor Reiner had just been arrested in Oxana for crimes that Kellen Ridge had likely been complicit in.[4] However, Kellen Ridge had left the city of Iryna[5], and Parliament was unsure whether they had sufficient probable cause to issue an arrest warrant in absentia. Armory believed that Kellen Ridge had suppressed reports of their death to hide his own negligence in not providing Saskia access to medical care that could have prevented their death. Armory also believed that the public deserved to know that Kellen Ridge's corruption had existed long before the election of Governor Reiner to office. With Kellen Ridge safely out of Iryna, Armory finally felt comfortable coming forward with their story. The testimony provided by Armory convinced Parliament that they could not wait for Oxana's judgment, and that Kellen Ridge needed to be held accountable for his corruption as Superintendent and his cruelty to his own child. After hearing testimony from Iryna PD officers and EMTs that corroborated Armory's allegations, Parliament voted 20-2 to indict Kellen Ridge.[6] The two dissenting votes were from Isolde Everle and Jeron Havener, the District Representatives from Upper Old Iryna.

The Irynian public, many of whom closely followed the personal lives of Upper Old Iryna's residents, were appalled that such dramatic events had been so well-hidden from the rest of the city.[7] Despite a sudden burst of interest in Armory as a celebrity figure, Armory did not seem interested in capitalizing on their fame. As quickly as they had appeared in the public eye, they once again disappeared, with their new fans reduced to baseless speculation on their current whereabouts. The only report with any substantiation was a sighting of Armory with Lily Havener, daughter of one of the Representatives who had voted against Kellen Ridge's indictment.[8] Despite rumors of a romantic relationship between them, no further verifiable information is currently available.

Note: "Misfeasance" is a charge related to the abuse of official authority, brought against those who had performed an action that would be lawful in other circumstances, but which was ruled to be performed in an improper manner or with improper motivation. Ordering the resuscitation of a deceased person is lawful, even if resuscitation fails or results in PRCI. However, resuscitating a deceased person to hide one's own complicity in their death, or using one's authority to coerce a medical professional into acting against their best judgment, are clear examples of misfeasance.
