Post-Resuscitation Chronic Illness

Post-Resuscitation Chronic Illness (PRCI) is a medical condition affecting individuals who were revived from death. Restorative magic is capable of resuscitating the recently-deceased, but as the time between death and resuscitation increases, irreversible brain damage makes success decreasingly likely. Most organ and tissue damage can be easily repaired by medical practitioners, but the brain is particularly susceptible to ischemic injury after death, and its extreme complexity makes it nigh-impossible for even the most talented mages to heal without unintentional alterations. The exact timeframe varies based on the severity of injuries and/or the health of the deceased, but resuscitation spells universally fail after a period of more than three minutes. If first responders are able to reach the deceased within a few seconds of their death, they can be revived with no adverse health effects. However, there is a middle ground in which the deceased can be revived, but are at risk of long-term health complications. PRCI can manifest with a near-infinite amount of possible symptoms, depending on the specific circumstances of an individual's death.
