Jousting

Jousting is a popular martial team sport in the Corvidan Archipelago. A jousting team consists of two athletes, the puller and the tilter. The puller's task is to operate the rickshaw, controlling its speed and maneuvers. The tilter carries a lance, and attempts to strike the opponent's rickshaw while blocking the opposing tilter's lance. The first team to three strikes wins the game. A referee calls strikes and breaks up any overly-aggressive physical altercations. Jousts can be performed on any uniformly-flat field, typically in an amphitheater or other open-air performance venue. Although the exact origins of jousting as a sport are not known, it is likely descended from the rickshaw troop carriers used during warfare. As jousting transitioned to a recreational pursuit, safety measures such as padded armor and blunted lances were implemented. Jousting rickshaws have also been adapted to suit the sport, designed to be light yet sturdy, with canvas sides that clearly show punctures when striken by a lance. Tilters are not allowed to strike either opposing team member with their lance or leave their rickshaw. Pullers, on the other hand, are known for abandoning their rickshaws to tackle and wrestle each other, in an attempt to give their tilter an advantage or purely out of anger. A risky maneuver for a tilter who has been stranded by their puller is to throw their lance at the opponents' rickshaw, but if they miss, they are unarmed and vulnerable. Good communication between puller and tilter is essential to coordinate their actions.
