About Espetrell
Put simply, Espetrell is the group name for a collaborative collective of writers, artists, worldbuilders, and creators. We value our privacy but also want some information about who we are to be available, if anyone is actually curious. Optimistically, we've decided to organize this information into an FAQ.
Q: What does Espetrell even mean?
A: "Espetrell" is the name we invented for one of our earliest OCs. We don't know when we created her for sure, but our best guess is age 7 or 8. She is a shapeshifting black cat with a forehead jewel and bat wings, who travels the universe stopping evil people from doing evil things. She hatched from an egg. Her name is pronounced "es-puh-trel". We started using it as our online name because it was never taken on any website, and we still use it 20 years later.
Q: How many of you are there? What are your names?
A: We're currently not comfortable answering this question, although this might change in the future. We prefer to be referred to collectively as Espetrell, with they/them pronouns and plural syntax. With our older work, even we aren't sure exactly who did what, so it's easier to credit Espetrell as a whole.
Q: What kind of creative work do you do?
A: In the past, we were webcomic artists, but we've decided to step away from the webcomic grind and do some soul-seaching to figure out what creative direction we want to pursue in the future. Whatever we do, we will always be passionate about diverse queer representation and unique fantasy worlds.
Q: Why did you make this website?
A: We've been online for a long time. We've seen sites come and go, and much of our older work is no longer available to read. We wanted a place where we could post whatever we like, without entrusting our vision to a corporation. Also, HTML is fun and designing this site is a creative project of its own.
